If you are looking for fun, comfort, and opulence at an economical spend, Pongwe Beach Hotel is just for you on the east coast of Zanzibar. Located between the coral rock outcrops and proudly rising above the isolated white-powdery beach, this hotel is a simple, but opulent as well as tranquil, yet vibrant retreat lodge. An unaffected as well as cozy hotel serves great satisfaction with flair wherein the main elements are sun, sand, and sea adding value to its gracious service. In addition, the Pongwe Beach Hotel also holds its own beach cut at high tide from the remaining island, an authentic gem reflecting real Indian Ocean vibes. The outcome is a peaceful and rejuvenating beach haven for an affordable value.
Facilities
Pongwe offers 16 white-washed cottages/bungalows indicating that this hotel promises privacy. Made in true local style, these cottages hold traditional lime wash walls, palm-leaf thatched roofs, handmade furniture of wood, and mosaic floors. They are purposefully established on the beachfront or amidst the cooling green gardens. TVs or radios do not entertain you here, which means a lot of bliss and quietness. However, your entertainment is full-on with its myriad of activities – kayaking, snorkeling, and excursions.
In all the rooms, the facilities as well as the interiors are similar: big local bed with mosquito netting, veranda, wardrobe of palm-rope, ceiling fan, table, chairs, towels, and drinking water. Daily fresh flowers brought to you make you feel that you are special to the Pongwe Beach Hotel. On your request, all rooms are flexible enough to be converted into doubles and triples. Further, all cottages are equipped with en suite bathrooms, private terrace for fresh views of the sunrise as well as alluring breakfast, and Moroccan-style walk in showers. No matter at which time you come here, the service here is fully exclusive, intimate, and friendly.
Mainly, there are two types: Beachfront rooms that are towards the sea with little more cost and the Garden rooms in tropical gardens. If you are with your family here, go for the family bungalow featuring two connected rooms, two single beds, double bed, and a common bathroom. However, since this retreat is eco-friendly; expect filtered sea water that is a bit brackish.
Other facilities are outside and include some loungers in the shade, 24 hour reception for attending you at any time, car for day trips, and boating. So, if you want to roam around the island or want to explore the historic Stone Town of Zanzibar, the hotel offers you a car for it or a hired 4×4 jeep. Snorkeling is best experienced with the help of its staff and rentals here. There is also a great infinity pool filled with salt water and is flanked by wooden decking for relaxing or enjoying some stunning views.
Restaurants
This is the hotel that is best admired for its excellent quality food. Breakfast is served from 7.30 to 10.30 am, which mainly has local fresh fruits along with the items of your choice. For lunch, a la carte menu is always there although it changes daily and is served after 12.30 pm. This meal of yours includes starter and main courses of your choice.
Dinner starts after 8 and is served until 9:30, which is a 3-course fixed menu. In this platter, expect special seafood as per the daily catch. The dinner menu is always brought to your notice at 9 am daily. So, if at all you have something special to be suggested or do not want an item, you can unhesitatingly tell about the same and they will be flexible as far as possible. All the dining is indoor on the individual tables. However, there is no room service here to bring the menu up to your cottage.
Children are always welcome here for whom the Pongwe Beach Hotel arranges great discounts, cots, and highchairs. However, the ultimate responsibility is of the parents here during their stay.
