One&Only’s Luxe New Experience in Rwanda Lets You Trek With Gorillas

0
One and Only Nyungwe House

From trekking with mountain gorillas to a safari in Akagera National Park (and water skiing in one of Africa’s Great Lakes), there are at least a thousand reasons to visit the Land of a Thousand Hills. The latest draw, however, is by far the most luxurious.

In July, One&Only announced it was debuting a OneEscape Experience, the first of its kind for the renowned resort brand, in Rwanda.

“This exclusive offering invites guests to discover both of our stunning properties and introduces them to the remarkable and beautiful country of Rwanda and its awe-inspiring surroundings,” Craig Storkey, Area Manager for One&Only Rwanda said.

The new OneEscape Experience is a custom six-night itinerary combining a three-night stay at One&Only Gorilla’s Nest with a three-night stay at One&Only Nyungwe House.

One&Only Gorilla’s Nest, where nightly rates start at $6,500, is located six miles southeast of Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park. Speaking of one and only, it’s one of the only places in the world where you can see a mountain gorilla (there are around 1,000 left in the wild). In addition to getting to trek with these elusive endangered animals—an experience that costs at least $1,500 per person and doesn’t come with any gorilla-sighting guarantees—guests at One&Only Gorilla’s Nest will enjoy an array of exclusive experiences. For starters, they’ll get a bean-to-barista master class on the art of making coffee. Rwanda has nearly half a million small coffee producers. They’ll also be treated to a traditional barbecue hosted at a cottage that the legendary conservationist Jack Hanna once called home.

At both One&Only resorts, guests also have the opportunity to give back by purchasing souvenirs from Handspun Hope, an organization that supports survivors of the 1994 Genocide and victims of the HIV/Aids epidemic. They can even meet the local artisans that make Handspun Hope’s signature stuffed apes. Starting at $96 for a nine-inch-tall mountain gorilla, they’re not cheap. But then again, neither is this OneEscape experience. It costs around $28,000 based on double occupancy. If you can afford the package, however, you can probably afford the plush primate. It’s for a good cause: get one.

Then it’s off to One&Only Nyungwe. By 4×4, it’s a five-hour drive through a countryside so hilly that getting carsick is inevitable. By air, the trip from One&Only Gorilla’s Nest to One&Only Nyungwe is a 35-minute scenic flight with million-dollar views. Fortunately, One&Only is partnering with Akagera Aviation to offer complimentary helicopter transfers to guests who travel between October 1 and December 14, 2023. Guests who travel outside those dates have an option to purchase the transfer for $5,775, one-way.

At One&Only Nyungwe, where nightly rates start at $3,250, guests can start their stay with a master class on tea, one of the country’s main exports, or a crash course in archery. Then it’s time for spear throwing lessons followed by a nocturnal hike or stargazing. The sky is literally the limit at this five-star retreat just a five-minute drive from Nyungwe National Park.

Review: Disney Magic Band

0
Disney Magic Band

What’s a MagicBand? Well, it’s Disney’s sparkly new wearable tech that serves as your wearable key to the magic. They’re basically Disney bracelets with Radio Frequency (RFID) technology.

Here’s what MagicBands can actually do:

  • Room Key
  • Park Ticket
  • Magical Express check-in/ticket
  • Charge any purchase to your credit card on file
  • Photo Pass
  • Fast Pass +
  • Use Disney Dining credits
  • Interactive games throughout the Parks/rides

I got to check out this new technology first hand a few weeks ago on my vacation to the Pop Century Resort at Walt Disney World. Here are my thoughts and experiences with MagicBand.

About 6 weeks out from our vacation, my friend Ashley and I went online to customize our MagicBands. You pick the color by choosing from 6 options with gray as the default; I chose pink and she picked orange.  The MagicBands arrived close to 3 weeks before our vacation in one Incredible box.

Upon arriving at Orlando International, I headed straight to the Magical Express check-in. This was the first time I got to use my MagicBand.  Of course, I’d put it on before I even left Philadelphia, so when I arrived at check-in, I just held my MagicBand up to Mickey. Mickey to Mickey. It glowed green and all my reservation info came right up for the Cast Member. Off to Pop Century I went.

At Pop Century, I headed to the concierge to add my credit card and choose a PIN number. Each person picks a PIN number so you’ll know who makes any charges to the MagicBand. Keep in mind, you can choose your PIN ahead of time if you do online check-in before arrival. When I got to our room, I simply held my wrist up to the door, got a green light and walked in.

Our first dining experience with the Magic Bands was just as easy. We enjoyed a mouthwatering meal at Sannaa at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. Our waiter asked if we were on the Disney dining plan and when we confirmed we were, he scanned a MagicBand (only one since we were a shared account) and used two table service meals – just like that. We were also able to charge the gratuity and extra food purchases we made directly to the room without whipping out a single credit card. It was all done through the MagicBand. This is when I realized, happily, I really didn’t need to carry any credit cards with me – I could use my MagicBand for everything.

MagicBands are also integrated into the interactive part of the rides. On the new re-imagined Test Track, I used my MagicBand to create my SimCar for the ride experience. I just held it up to Mickey and voila, I created a fast and fabulous car in just 3 minutes. When I got on the ride, I scanned my MagicBand and my car was loaded and ready to ‘test’ the design on the ride. There are several interactive items like this throughout the parks, but this was the only one we did on this trip.

The last and one of the coolest things to do with MagicBands is to plan out your Fast Pass ahead of time. Oh yes, ahead of time. Like before the park even opens! For this feature, you do need to use either the Disney Experience website or free app (on iPhone and Android). But then you go online and choose 3 rides, attractions or experiences. For our first day, we used it to get Star Tours, Toy Story Mania and Fantasmic preferred seating.  This was incredible, because Toy Story Mania normally has a 150 minute wait, but we knew what time our Fast Pass was before we even walked in the park. And a bonus feature, if your plans change or you want to do something else, the app lets you make time and experience changes based on what’s still available. One downside to this feature, right now, you can only choose your 3 attractions at the same park. So while you can park hop, your 3 pre-chosen experiences have to be at the same park. Disney’s working on this, but for now, only one park at a time. And here’s a Disney tip, you’ll still receive a card park ticket as ‘back-up.’ Use this in the legacy Fast Pass machines at the park and you can still get a Fast Pass the old way too!

Keep in mind, MagicBands are only if you’re staying on Disney property or an annual passholder. Also, they’re not 100% available at all Disney resorts yet; they’re still rolling them out.

I’m personally totally in love with the MagicBand. It was a fantastic user experience; I loved the technology factor, the interaction with the app and the ease of not carrying a wallet with me.  I also got to keep my MagicBand and can use it the next time I head to the Mouse House – which I’m hoping is soon!

If you want to do some more reading on MagicBands, check out Disney’s website for more of the details: https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/faq/bands-cards/understanding-magic-band/ .

Have you gotten to use the MagicBand yet? What do you think of the new idea? And of course, what color MagicBand would you get?

Exploring Egypt in a Luxurious Way

0
Luxurious Egypt

Egypt is many times described as a living museum as well as a breathing testament for the ancient civilization. On the other hand, it is by no means pyramids and temples. Egypt is an abode to a diversity of urban cities similar to the Mediterranean fashionable Alexandria or else the eastern beach resort of Hurghada, which is positioned on the Red Sea. Being the epicenter of the ancient civilization, the country of Egypt has more than one or two monuments, which have set the assessment of time.

Take a trip to the disorganized capital in Cairo along with active bazaars, the camel rides as well as the Giza Pyramids that is mostly seen on the horizon. Established by Alexander the Great, the city of Alexandria might come into view for having additional Greek architecture than the Egyptian one, on the other hand, this is merely evidence to the legends, which have walked all of these streets which includes Cleopatra, Julius Caesar, and Marc Antony.

The preferred must-sees tourist attractions in Egypt consist of the Giza Pyramids, the renowned Egyptian Museum in Cairo, the Valley of the Kings located at Luxor, splendid temples at Abu Simbel, exciting scuba diving in the waters of Sharm el-Sheikh as well as the momentous oasis Siwa within the Western Desert Region.

Though Africa has several honey moon destinations for amazing honeymoon safaris, Couples have to take note of the following before booking a perfect hassle free tailor made honey moon holiday to any destination in Africa bite Budget, Deluxe or Luxury.

Couple travel interests

All couples need to know what makes the other party happy or smile before choosing a perfect honey moon destination. Discus it over with your partner and get to know exactly what he/she feels like doing on a couple vacation, favorite food or cuisine, entertainments etc. If you are both beach funs then chose a beach or island destinations places close to water like the Seychelles island, Zanzibar beach in Tanzania, Lake Kivu in Rwanda ,Mauritius etc and if you love animals, the wildlife parks are the best like Masai Mara National park, Murchison falls National park, Bwindi Impenetrable Forest & volcanoes National park etc though you can also chose to mix destinations both the wild and beach destinations in order to taste both the wild and beach setting.

Honeymoon holiday budget

This is something you must look at before planning a tour holiday not only honeymoon safari tours but all tours in general. Look at the amount of dollars or pounds you ready to part with and plan rightly with your travel expert. Ask frequent questions in order to get the very best in line with your interest. If you budget is broad go in for the best luxury lodges & resorts available on your chosen honeymoon destination but if its medium you can go in for deluxe accommodations or chose to spend some nights in budget camps and other in deluxe hotels/resorts. Mixing two different accommodation types of different standards makes your holiday the very best but you need to notify the other part so that it doesn’t appear as a shock. However you need to book lodges and accommodations which are quiet and with a nice view since most couples as a must have to chill outside their rooms while on a trip.

Gifts and surprise Moments

In most cases it’s the men who make honeymoon arrangements but its always very good to book a honeymoon safari with a few surprises and gifts for example the lodges offers you special drinks as a couple in form of Gifts, your rooms and bathrooms are coloured with flower petals though you can also think of a best way to surprise your partner. This is normally done at the time of booking so talk to your tour expert to ensure that you treated in a very special way during your stay making your holiday get meaningful life time memories. I believe who ever plans a honey moon safari to Africa will never regret so just Plan your wedding and leave the honeymoon in Africa for your travel expert.
